Application Forms - What NOT to do
Many employers require you to fill out an application form instead of
or in accompany to your CV and cover letter. Here are just some of the
NO NO's you should always remember:

DO NOT..
.. cut and paste from a previous application form.
Employers will often
be able to notice this, for example, if the question is slightly
different and you are not answering what is really being asked.

DO NOT..
.. just send your cover letter and CV thinking that will do. The
reasons why they are requiring an application form are so they can
easily compare candidates and they want to see how you interpret the
questions and tailor your answers. You should try to make your own
judgement as to whether you should supply a cover letter in addition to
the application form depending on what you feel has been included or
not.

DO NOT..
.. cram everything into one box and write short-handed making it
difficult to read. You will end up including things that are irrelevant
and cutting out those important points that are required. Make sure you
are clever with what you include in the box and only include points
that are related to the question they are asking.

DO NOT..
.. go over the amount of words you are set. They have given you a set
amount of space for a reason - so stick to it. You do not want to
waffle and bore the reader.

DO NOT..
.. rush it just like when you are writing your cover letter and CV.
Taking time to fill out the form in detail shows interest and
commitment. If you do it half-heartedly, it will be obvious and it will
NOT impress!

DO NOT..
.. leave any questions unanswered. If you cannot answer one question,
just write down why it is not applicable to you.

DO NOT..
.. lie for any of the questions ( just the same as with your cover
letter and CV). A lot of companies use third parties to check specific
details so you risk getting caught out.
