THE CENTER FOR TRANSLATIONAL SCIENCE ACTIVITIES AT THE MAYO CLINIC IN ROCHESTER, MINNESOTA IS SEEKING A HIGHLY PRODUCTIVE PH.D. AND/OR M.D. SCIENTIST AT THE ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR LEVEL TO SERVE AS ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR TO THE METABOLOMICS CORE FACILITY
This Collaborative Scientist position will be an Associate Director to lead the Mayo CTSA Metabolomics Core facility together with the Director of the facility. The Metabolomics Core provides mass spectrometry based analyses of metabolites from stable isotope labeled tracer studies and both qualitative quantitative metabolomics profiling from fluid and tissue samples for Mayo Clinic researchers and collaborators. Mayo is an ideal environment to build this type of research program as it houses a wide variety of specialists who collectively serve a large patient population that offers strong validation and clinical translation opportunities.
The successful applicant would be expected to play a leadership role, working closely with the Director to provide strategic direction for the core, lead the development of novel methodology, provide methodology expertise and guidance to users of the facility and keep abreast of technical and scientific developments in the field. In addition, the Associate Director/Collaborative Scientist will participate or lead in grant applications, authoring publication, presenting papers, and creatively applying and extracting scientific literature to expand support services.
QUALIFICATIONS: Credentials of successful applicants will include a MD, PhD (or equivalent) with a minimum 3 years of post-doctoral experience, preferably 5-6 years, in biochemistry, mass spectrometry and the application of mass spectrometry analysis in human physiology. The ideal candidate will have a strong mass spectrometry background including theoretical and practical experience in methodology development for GC/MS, LC/MS and tandem mass spectrometry.
