GSL has an opportunity for a recently qualified Chartered Psychologist to join our forward thinking team. Managing the Sex Offenders Treatment Programme and working with life sentenced prisoners, you will provide psychological input into various aspects of the regime for Segregation and the Safer Custody agenda.
If you are an enthusiastic and progressive psychologist who is able to manage and lead a multi-disciplinary team, this could be a good move for you. Working within GSL’s Prison Services philosophy and procedures, you will conduct interviews, undertake psychological assessments and evaluations as well as producing reports on offenders.
With a view to further developing the programme and psychology services, liaising with other disciplines and relevant external agencies will be an essential part of this challenging but rewarding role. Providing staff awareness training and developing specific facilitator training, you will need to be fully conversant with selection and assessment procedures for accredited programmes and experience in delivering accredited programmes would be an advantage.
About Rye Hill
HMP Rye Hill is situated in the village of Willoughby, near Rugby, in Warwickshire. This is a Private finance initiative prison (PFI). Construction began in April 1999, and the prison opened in January 2001.
This is a training prison holding 660 adult male Category B sentenced prisoners which includes 150 vulnerable prisoners. These people are housed in a purpose designed Vulnerable Prisoner Unit, with its own regime and facilities.
The sentence requirement for HMP Rye Hill is more than 4 years with 18 months left to serve.
Its philosophy seeks to "normalise" prison life to reflect life in the outside community as far as possible and to create an environment in which both staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to this philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. GSL's operating philosophy emphasises the need to treat prisoners with decency and respect and encourages staff to build positive, supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care.
