Enforcement Officer- Housing Services

To undertake a range of regulatory and advisory activities to achieve compliance with housing legislation thereby ensuring residents occupy homes that are healthy, safe and in a suitable and habitable condition.

o To assess houses and identify building defects and associated hazards and specify the standard, type and quality of the remedy.
o To issue appropriate instructions to landlords, managing agents and contractors and meet with them as necessary throughout the duration of the work.
o Monitor landlords and contractors progress through site inspections and post inspection to assess the quality of work and compliance with legal notices.
o Keep customers informed about the programme and also ensuring that the contractor maintains good liaison with the customer.
o When work is completed satisfactory and notices complied with, ensure that records are updated including cancellation of Notices and removal of information from local authority land search database.
o To undertake complex investigations and resolve complaints to secure compliance with legal requirements
o To advise customers, council officers and members on complex or advise technical aspects of policies and their interpretation providing technical support as necessary,
o To prepare prosecution reports on breaches of housing health and safety legislation and appear as a witness in court if necessary.
o To produce reports for the head of service and members required on the activities of the Housing Standards and Adaptations or in response to any relevant consultation
o To attend meetings with Senior officers, the public, Members or external agencies provide advice and technical support
o Any other duties as directed by the Manager of the Housing Standards and Adaptations Team that are commensurate with the salary and grade.

This is a contract post for over 3 months work in the North Yorkshire region
