| Job Reference: VP66203T This is a joint venture to provide a transportation engineering service to a Council. The Traffic Order Makers assist the Principal Order Maker and Team Manager in producing both permanent and experimental Traffic Orders and Stopping Up Orders. A Traffic Order Maker is involved in all stages of the traffic management design process from feasibility through to design, consultation, making recommendations and ultimately making Orders. Traffic Order-making requires a keen eye for detail and would suit someone who is of an enquiring mind and can focus on a number of demanding projects with minimal supervision. This is principally an administrative role but some engineering experience will be beneficial. Limited training to understand the council processes will be provided but the candidate will be expected to understand traffic order principles and the current legislation. Principal Accountabilities o Providing professional Traffic Order-related advice to the client and other stakeholders. o Keeping abreast of legislative changes relating to traffic and highways law. o Managing a portfolio of projects from drafting to completion; seeking authority to proceed at each stage; and ensuring all parties provide information in a timely fashion. After a supervised period you will be expected to meet with the client and/or our internal design teams on a monthly basis to review the progress of your projects. o Following set procedures precisely; and taking the initiative to ensure all Traffic Orders are correctly and legally made within this framework. o Visiting sites throughout the area to measure on-street layout and to formulate designs to address a stated need (THIS IS AN INFREQUENT ACTIVITY - THE MAJORITY OF WORK WILL BE OFFICE-BASED). o Using photos, drawings and written arguments in a report to seek approval from the Council to proceed with a given design. o Drawing plans on ParkMap or arranging for a CAD Technician to produce detailed CAD plans. o Researching and writing section 6, 9 and 45 Traffic Orders covering a wide variety of traffic management schemes. o Handling queries and objections to proposed Orders from members of the public both in writing, by email and by phone. o Reporting to the client in detail on the results of public consultations with recommendations. o Responding fully to objectors in writing addressing their concerns (as |
