How to use Twitter to help you in your job search
Twitter is not the first social networking platform that you think of when you are considering where to look for a new job. It is however somewhere where you should consider an online presence with its growing popularity.
With Twitter being a very open network, you can publicly tell people about your thoughts and opinions. It provides a great opportunity to be a thought leader and build your own awareness as a professional in your specific industry. Connect with people in your industry to build up your network - not only does this help you to create discussions with those in your network but recruiters who look at your profile will like the look of your network as well.
It is important to follow companies and people who are in your industry and participate in discussions that relate. A lot of companies tweet their jobs so it’s a good idea to follow that company to keep up to date with their recent job openings.

Re-tweeting others interesting comments is good but to position yourself as someone with lots of great ideas, you should tweet meaningful content and get other people engaging with you. As Twitter is not just a professional network, your tweets should show off your personality and allow people to really get to know you. It will give recruiters an idea of what you are interested in outside of your career. On the other hand, do not use it for self-promotion all of the time or it could become detrimental to you – ensure you are sharing others content and show interest in what others are doing.
If you have a Linkedin profile or blog, then you can link through to that to give recruiters and other followers more information about you. Use Twitter as a gateway to more information.
Don’t forget that with Twitter, the more interesting you are, the more people will want to follow you. Don’t be shy. Twitter will never take over from the traditional CV/Resume but it will surely enhance it.
