Advantages of using social networks in your search for a new job….

Social networks are revolutionising the way people find jobs and have changed how people look and apply for jobs. The most popular way to find a job has always been by word of mouth and this is the basis of social networking websites.

Speed

You are able to contact multiple employers in one go, in just a few seconds. You can identify where new jobs are appearing quickly as they appear on your social networking feeds and be the first to apply.

Linking contacts

It provides you with a great network of links to allow you to find out about potential opportunities which may have gone unnoticed otherwise. Plus all of your contacts in your network can see your updates as they happen. Therefore if you are telling contacts about your situation, someone who may think you are suitable could potentially get in touch about an opportunity they know about or have heard about. You are notifying your network that you are a jobseeker and without doing anything more, you could find yourself being contacted for a relevant role.

Companies are using them

As social networks are growing, more companies are finding they need to get involved otherwise they may miss out. If you are using them correctly, then you are getting yourself in front of potential employers.

Access to personal information

Although this can be seen as a negative if you have published inappropriate comments/pictures, it could work to your advantage. Employers are more often searching for a potential employees name and if they can find you and like what they see then you have passed one stage without even doing anything. It allows them to see your personality and behaviour without even meeting you.

Finally, if you are using social networks properly and connecting to the right people in your industry and getting involved in relevant discussion topics, then you become a valuable resource. You will look technically savvy and employers will like the look of you. If you are not using social networks, then it may be time to start!
