Role Overview: 

The Data Archtect creates comprehensive data solutions that align with DCS objectives.  You will partner with various teams to define data needs and establish data warehouse architecture and standards.  This teachnical leadership position requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to guide teams, ability to perform logic analysis, and the capacity to respond to complex technical challenges.

Salary: 

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $79,118 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

-Create and develop the architecture for cloud/on-prem data management systems, ensuring they are secure, scalable, highly available, recoverable, maintainable and efficient.
-Define and establish cloud/on-prem Data warehouse and/or Data Lake.
-Create and Manage cloud/on-prem Data Governance, Data Management, Master Data Management and other relevant Strategies and Plans.
-Consults with and makes recommendations to business and technical groups at all levels to define data requirements, evaluate data technology needs, and formulate solutions.
-Develops and monitors the standards, best practices, procedures, integrity and integration of data.
-Analyzes data needs and requirements of existing and proposed systems and develop technical, structural and organizations designs and specifications.
-Evaluates technology and products to determine the feasibility of adding to agency standards.
-Provides guidance and reviews the work of team members on projects as needed.
-Facilitate discussions for long-term planning implementation.
-Identifies and explores the potential strategies for long-term planning implementation.
-Works with and provides guidance to information systems personnel or user agencies, for maximum utilization of the agency data.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours that may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment: 

-Proficiency in database management systems like SQL, NoSQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, DB2 etc.
-Expertise in designing data models, including conceptual, logical, and physical models.
-Strong knowledge of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and tools like AWS Glue, Informatica, Talend etc.
-Experience with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, especially their data storage and processing services.
-Thorough knowledge of data warehouse architecture and standards.
-Understanding data warehousing and data lake concepts and tools like Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks etc.
-Knowledge of data governance practices, including data quality, data lineage, and data security.
-Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, PySpark, Lambda Functions, Scala for data manipulation and analysis.
-Thorough knowledge of database software, database definition languages, data dictionaries, computer programming and testing of programs.
-Through knowledge of data communication, connectivity and the agency used operating systems.
-Extensive knowledge of the most recent technical developments in the data management field.
-Ability to perform logic analysis.
-Ability to read and understand complicated technical manuals.
-Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
-Ability theories, principles and methodologies to existing computer or database software.
-Ability to design complex data architectures to support the use of agency data.
-Ability to guide and coordinate the work of others.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
