Position Description

The Glycoscience Center of Research Excellence (GlyCORE) in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Mississippi is searching for a Research Associate Professor in the field of analytical chemistry, biochemistry and/or glycoscience for a position that is available immediately. This full-time non-tenure track research faculty position offers an opportunity for a leadership-minded researcher to manage an existing analytical and biophysical chemistry research core facility, initiate independent and collaborative research projects, and work with the GlyCORE leadership team to ensure user access to state-of-the-art instrumentation. This position will report directly to the Director of GlyCORE.

The primary duties of this position are:
•    Manage the Analytical and Biophysical Chemistry Research Core of GlyCORE, including day-to-day supervision of one Senior R&D Chemist
•    Handle and analyze user samples for a variety of analytical and biophysical analyses, including high-resolution LC-MS/MS; analytical UHPLC; multi-angle light scattering analysis; surface plasmon resonance; and Luminex multiplex analysis
•    Design and hold user workshops to train users in carbohydrate chemistry, bio-analytical techniques, data analysis and related topics
•    Contribute to and lead efforts to secure funding for glycoscience-related research projects and new instrumentation
•    Consult with users on topics related to the analysis of samples, especially those regarding glycoscience
•    Collaborate with researchers and with other research cores and facilities to maximize user service 
•    Lead efforts in business development for the research core facility, including development of a cost recovery center and development of our user base

Position Details

Appointment: 12 month

Assignment Type: Non-Tenure Track

Minimum Qualifications
-A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biophysics or a closely related field plus at least ten years of postdoctoral experience in such a research area is required.
-Documented experience in glycoscience is required.
-Strong candidates will demonstrate experience and success in operating in a service-oriented research center, preferably in a management role.
-Experience in workflow management, sample management, carbohydrate chemistry, ‘omics data acquisition and analysis, and a variety of analytical and biophysical techniques is advantageous.
