Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer with electrical bias sought by a recycling facility in Runcorn.  This subsidiary of an international, £multibillion turnover plastics manufacturer is focused on growing the circular economy and they see innovation within PVC recycling as pivotal to their global sustainability strategy.
 
This is a permanent role on weekly rotating shifts, 6am to 2pm and 2pm to 10pm, known formally within the business as Mechanical Technician.
 
The Role:
As a Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer with electrical bias, you’ll be responsible for installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical and instrumentation equipment in compliance with industry regulations, Health & Safety standards, and company procedures. Your duties will include:

- Installing, calibrating and maintaining electrical and instrumentation systems including motors, sensors, actuators, PLCs and control panels
- Carrying out mechanical tasks as part of a multifunctional team
- Troubleshooting: diagnosing and repairing electrical and instrumentation faults on a variety of systems
- Carrying out TPM tasks to ensure maximum OEE is achieved
- Performing routine testing, calibration and validation of instrumentation and control systems to ensure optimal performance
- Accurately maintaining records of all electrical and instrumentation work: maintenance logs, calibration reports, work orders and spare parts stores management
- Ensuring all work complies with relevant legislation, including Electricity at Work Regulations, IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and company policies
- Following strict Health & Safety guidelines, conducting risk assessments and ensuring compliance with safe work practices
- Participating in continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance system reliability and efficiency
- Working closely with engineers, production teams and external contractors to ensure timely resolution of issues
- Working on a shift pattern or 6am-2pm and 2pm-10pm, rotating on a weekly basis

The successful Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer will demonstrate:

- NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) or equivalent
- 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
- Demonstrable experience in an electrical and instrumentation role, across multiple sectors including manufacturing, industrial, energy, or related industries
- Must be a time served/qualified electrician with experience
- Must have mechanical ability, with electrical experience desirable
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, control systems, and instrumentation technologies
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency with electrical drawings and schematics

The following skills and experience are desirable but not essential:

- Instrumentation certification
- COMPEX certification
- Experience working in hazardous environments (ATEX)
- Familiarity with DCS (Distributed Control Systems)
- Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, and automation is advantageous
