As an Assistant Forester, you’ll be joining one of the largest and best-managed forestry companies in the world as you begin your forestry career with our Whitecourt Woodlands team. This is an entry-level successional role designed to provide you with hands-on experience across all functional areas of forestry. This position will be heavily focused on Harvesting Operations with exposure to Silviculture and Planning.

A day in the life of an Assistant Forester will include:

-Ensuring all activities are conducted in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Requirements, forestry legislation, Canfor’s Environmental Policy, Forestry Principles, and Forestry Management System
-Supporting harvesting, log loading, and log haul programs.
-Participating in road reclamation activities and other operational fieldwork.
-Collaborating with team members to ensure operations are conducted in an environmentally sensitive manner and in alignment with sustainable forest management practices.
-Assisting with implementing efficiencies and cost-saving initiatives.
-Assisting when needed with and coordinating tree planting, site preparation, regeneration surveys, stand tending, and thinning programs.
The Candidate:

-A post-secondary education in Forestry or a related field.
-Silviculture and/or Harvesting operations experience is considered an asset.
-Eligible (or working toward eligibility) for registration with the Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals (AAFMP).
-Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
-Ability to work cooperatively with contractors and stakeholders, as well as independently in a field environment.
