The Role

Are you passionate about looking after students living in University owned and managed partnership accommodation, promoting a positive environment and experience that fosters a sense of belonging and community? If the answer is yes, you will oversee the Residences Life and Behaviour Team in supporting all of our students within University-owned and managed accommodation as they transition into independent living.

You will ensure the delivery of a first-class residential educational curriculum that supports a positive learning environment where students’ personal, academic and career goals can be achieved, as well as directing and managing the Behaviour Team for student behaviour and misconduct.

To overview a team that supports students living in University owned and managed partnership accommodation, helping them in all aspects of settling into University life.  Be responsible for the leadership and management of the Behaviour Team for student behaviour and misconduct, and the Residences Life Team in the delivery of a residential educational curriculum that promotes a positive environment and sense of belonging, where students’ personal, academic and career goals can be achieved.

Key Accountabilities

-To review and manage the deliverance of an educational curriculum that cultivates self-awareness, positive relationships and develops life skills where students thrive in independent living
-To review and oversee the development of a tailored, inclusive events programme allowing for connectivity with other students in their accommodation and academic communities while working collaboratively with key stakeholders
-To manage student discipline and misconduct in University owned accommodation, working collaboratively with Registry & Education Service to ensure regulations and policies are kept up to date and adhered to
-Support the Head of Residences in the delivery and development of a student-centred approach to building a community within the residences, working with service colleagues to ensure the highest standard of the student experience is met
-Manage the Residences Life and Behaviour Teams, and support the management of the Residences Life Students Assistants while demonstrating a commitment to equality and diversity in which staff and students are recruited, trained, managed, motivated, developed and recognised in line with University values policies and principles
-Fully support the Service’s commitment to training and development by participating in courses and/or events to develop personal skills and knowledge to perform duties of the post, ensuring you are always up to date with student trends; oversee the development of your ResLife & Behaviour team carrying out reviews and PDRs, 1-1s and training programmes where appropriate.
-To review the ResLife Communication Strategy and work closely with the Accommodation Marketing Team developing new communication content and marketing assets for maximum engagement with students. Ensure the inclusion of communication suitable for groups such as under 18s, International students and estranged students
-Work closely with our PBSA Partnership accommodation sites to ensure cohesion in our service to the students, supporting their behaviour processes and sharing best practice.
-Establish and maintain effective relationships with University services, schools and key internal and external stakeholders, to include Student Union, Student Health & Wellbeing, Registry & Education Service, Careers Service, University Library, Sports Centre and Northumbria Police. Participate in the relevant University-wide working groups and initiatives to contribute towards relevant accreditations.
-Lead on key issues for the Service to develop educational and behavourial policies and procedures which establish best practice for service provision to students in residence
-Gather and provide statistical data and produce an annual report on ResLife offering, student engagement, student behaviour and misconduct
-Manage the operational budgets and purchasing process to achieve targets and objectives and liaise with the Administration & Finance Manager regarding quarterly forecasts
-Working with the Accommodation Management team to ensure a safe environment for staff, students and visitors by co-ordinating and implementing relevant statutory, University and Service guidelines, policies and procedures eg Health and Safety Legislation, UUK Code of Practice for Student Accommodation.
-Liaise with H&S to develop and review risk assessments for events, social spaces and job roles where relevant
-Participate in out of hours Open Days and Intake throughout the year, providing Student Experience coverage as needed

-Specialist knowledge and understanding of the services offered in Higher Education
-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage with and influence key internal and external stakeholders
-Excellent planning and organisational skills
-Proven ability in using initiative to think strategically and adopt an analytical approach to problem solving
-Self-motivator with the ability to accept responsibility, prioritise own workload and meet deadlines
-Proven experience of establishing, reviewing and monitoring business processes in a service environment
-Excellent management and team leadership skills
-Conflict management/ability to deal with sensitive issues
-Proven performance management in; building, leading and motivating a team to achieve success
-A positive and professional customer focussed attitude
-Excellent IT skills and an aptitude for data analysis and interpretation
-Flexible approach to working practices

Qualifications

-A first degree or equivalent qualification, together with significant relevant professional experience
