JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of
Engineering Design Manager.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Design Engineering, the Design Engineering Manager is responsible for providing technical and consultative services, problem solving, technical advice and guidance, technical specifications, product expertise and related services to station/facility personnel, management and other interested parties including regulatory agencies.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

-Provide technical expertise in the oversight of the Pickering Sustainable Project Portfolio, with a focus on early stage (conceptual).
-Manage/oversee capital projects (over 1M), with a portfolio totaling 500M annually.
-Engage external vendors in the design, procurement & construction, as well as ongoing oversight of design vendors.
-Review and challenge external engineering estimates, to ensure accurate fiscal evaluations of the scope of work.
-Provide meaningful input to the business plan and formulation of department work programs and tasks. Develop work plans, consistent with time horizon of role to achieve assigned tasks. Utilizing these work plans, establish context, subordinate tasks, controls and limits.
-Set cost control procedures and objectives. Assign tasks, ensuring the commensurate level of complexity, discussing the limits and methods to be used, specifying the task parameters and setting overall context for the assignment.
-Develop strategies and work processes for the plant. Analyze technical results and adjust/implement work programs as necessary, including the identification of resources required, optimizing performance.
-Continually assess and maintain Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and Nuclear-specific governing documents, including policies, standards and procedures, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
 

QUALIFICATIONS

-Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Electrical- Instrumentation & Control, Mechanical, or Civil is preferred.
-Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario
-Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in design engineering
-Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manager/supervisory role
-Excellent communication and leadership are essential. Must be able to provide oversight to a small team of technical staff effectively, provide guidance and foster collaboration.
-Experience working with vendors, having strong vendor management skills.
-Experience executing capital projects from Conceptual Design Phase to close out phase.
-Project & Contract management experience and understanding, with proficiency in SPI, CPI and Engineering resource estimates.
-Experience training, developing and mentoring direct reports.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions.
