Job Purpose
Alpha Technologies Ltd., an EnerSys company, has an opportunity for an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) & Facilities Officer to join our group in our Burnaby location. Reporting to the Senior EHS & Facilities Manager, the role supports day-to-day environmental, health, safety, and facilities programs to ensure compliance, maintain safe operations, and promote a positive safety culture. This role is more hands-on and execution-focused, providing guidance to employees and contractors while escalating more complex issues to the Senior Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-Assist in implementing and maintaining EHS policies, procedures, and programs.
-Conduct regular safety inspections and facility walkthroughs to ensure compliance with regulations and company standards.
-Support Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) and EOS-aligned EHS programs to promote continuous improvement in workplace safety.
-Coordinate and document safety training sessions for employees and contractors.
-Serve as first point of contact for minor incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions; support investigations and escalate findings.
-Maintain accurate EHS records and assist with regulatory documentation.
-Support the JOSH and YOSHI committees by scheduling meetings, preparing minutes, and following up on action items.
-Monitor and assist with emergency response plans, first aid resources, and evacuation drills.
-Oversee day-to-day maintenance and facilities tasks, including contractor coordination, minor repairs, and office/lab floor support.
-Identify and recommend opportunities for energy efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainable practices.
-Provide guidance to managers and employees on safe work practices and job hazard analysis (JHA).
Qualifications
-Diploma or certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or related field (A degree would be an asset)
-2–4 years of experience in EHS, safety coordination, or facilities support, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
-Familiarity with WorkSafeBC regulations and ISO standards (ISO 14001, ISO 9001) an asset.
-Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
-Good communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to coach and influence at the shop-floor level.
-Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with facility management systems is an asset.
