Position Description
Assistant Professor of Nutrition & Hospitality Management (Tenure track)
The Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management (NHM) in the School of Applied Sciences at the University of Mississippi invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate may begin as early as January 2026
Roles and Duties
The successful candidate will:
-Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses related to food service management in Dietetics and Nutrition.
-Maintain a substantive research program that is related to food service management and has the potential to attract external funding.
-Serve on academic, departmental and university committees; engage in other professional service activities; assist in curriculum design and revision; and foster partnerships and collaborate with industry and local community partners.

Minimum Qualifications
-Hold a Ph.D. in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university (ABD considered if there is a strong prospect of earning the degree by the start of the contract)
-Has experience in current food service practice standards, budgeting and financial management, and FDA food safety regulations
-Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
-Eligible for active Mississippi state licensure as an RD
-Evidence of scholarly productivity and potential to secure external funding
Preferred Qualifications
-Experience as an RDN in hospital, outpatient, long-term care, school nutrition, or community-based settings
-Expertise in menu development and recipe modification to meet diverse dietary needs and health trends
-Experience in training food service staff to ensure proper food handling and nutritional care practices
-Proficiency in food safety and regulatory compliance
-Ability to collaborate with culinary teams and other professionals to create practical, patient centered, and sustainable meal programs
-Experience mentoring students at the undergraduate and graduate levels
-At least one year of teaching experience in higher education

About the Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management
The NHM Department is home to 17 faculty, 2 staff members, and approximately 400 students from around the world (nhm.olemiss). NHM currently offers two undergraduate programs (B.S. in Dietetics and Nutrition; B.S. in Hospitality Management), two master’s programs (M.S. in Food and Nutrition Services; M.S. in Hospitality Management and Leadership), and two Ph.D. programs (Ph.D. in Nutrition Sciences; Ph.D. in Hospitality Management). Both the B.S. in Dietetics and Nutrition program and the Coordinated Program (CP) in Dietetics at the University of Mississippi are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). The Hospitality Management Program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA).
The department is housed within the School of Applied Sciences, an inclusive home to approximately 150 faculty and staff, over 2,900 students, six academic departments, three centers, and an institute. The School currently serves 10 undergraduate, 10 master’s, and four doctoral programs (sas.olemiss).
