Your opportunity:
As a Data Engineer within the Research Analytics team of the Office of the Vice President, Research & Innovation, you will play a crucial role in advancing the university's data strategy. Reporting to the Manager, Research Analytics, you will design and develop robust data pipelines, data marts, and reporting solutions. Your work will ensure efficient data integration and enhance the university’s ability to leverage data-driven insights, directly contributing to the success of research and innovation initiatives across the institution.
Your responsibilities will include:
-Reconciling business requirements with information architecture needs for highly complex system integration.
-Analyzing and optimizing database software.
-Designing, testing, and modifying programming code.
-Developing and maintaining quality control procedures.
-Analyzing, recommending, and designing highly complex software architectures.
-Leading and planning IT projects, including scheduling, milestones, and deliverables.
-Analyzing, recommending, and designing technical solutions for highly complex IT problems.
-Serving as a technical resource and providing job-related guidance to colleagues and end-users.
-Documenting business requirements, technical solutions, and system specifications.
-Advising on feasibility, cost, and implementation strategies for IT solutions.
Essential Qualifications:
-Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
-Minimum five (5) years recent and relevant Data Engineering experience with a strong background in ETL/ELT processes.
-Experience with data pipeline tools and platforms (e.g., Informatica, MS Azure Data Factory, etc.).
-Proven experience with data warehouse projects and handling large, complex data sets.
-Proficiency in SQL, Python, and/or other programming languages commonly used in data engineering.
-Solid understanding of database management systems (RDBMS, NoSQL) and data warehousing solutions (e.g., MS Azure SQL, Databricks, PostgreSQL, IBM DB2).
-Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP).
-Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work as part of a fast-paced, cross-functional teams.
-Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Assets (Nonessential):
-Knowledge of data modeling, schema design, and data architecture best practices.
-Understanding of machine learning capabilities.
-Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI).

USW Pay Band 16 -- $103,367. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $132,188. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
