about Sanctuary Group
Sanctuary Group is a housing and care provider. We were set up in 1969 to deliver housing and care to those who need it most, and that original purpose still guides us today.
We are a registered, exempt charity, which means instead of returning a profit to shareholders, every penny we make must be used to improve homes and services, and build new social housing. We are a housing association; which means we provide affordable, social housing for some of the poorest people in society. We own and manage around 100,000 homes and to help tackle the UK’s housing crisis, we are building 30,000 new homes by 2026.
Around two-thirds of these are social housing, that is homes for rent at below market levels or homes to part-rent and part-buy, which have been subsidised by the Government. The remaining 10,000 homes will be sold on the private market through Beech Grove Homes, and the surplus that we generate will be ploughed back into social housing.
As well as generating revenue through development, we have several other commercial business streams including around 70 care homes managed by Sanctuary CareŽ, specialist and supported housing through Sanctuary Supported LivingŽ, our Sanctuary StudentsŽ university accommodation and a telecare service called Sanctuary365Ž. These business streams provide us with a surplus that helps us meet our charitable objectives and are at the core of why we exist: to ensure no-one is homeless and that everyone receives the care they need.
In 2015/2016, our turnover was £669 million and we expect to turnover £1 billion by 2020. Our 11,000 employees are motivated by our mission; and every day embody our shared values of ambition, diversity, integrity, quality and sustainability.
