about Lloyds Register
Working together for a safer world.
Lloyd’s Register helps to protect life and property and supports education and engineering-related research.
We do this through a commercial entity, LR, a leading provider of engineering-centric, global professional services that improve the safety and performance of complex, critical infrastructure for our clients and for society. And through a charitable arm, the Lloyd’s Register Foundation, which through its network is able to provide unbiased world-expert research and education in science and engineering.
Founded in 1760 as a marine classification society, LR now operates across multiple industry sectors, with some 8,000 employees operating in 78 countries and headquartered in London, UK.
We've been helping clients succeed for over 250 years. We believe it all starts with focusing on the little details, leaving no stone unturned, and then implementing the solutions that make a genuine difference.
Our work for the most part is highly technical. We’re more likely to hire an
expert in structural engineering or stress analysis than someone with an
insurance background. That’s because we’re involved in the certification,
inspection and validation of major physical assets – from ships and oil rigs to
industrial plants. By independently assuring these assets, we give our clients
the external recognition they need to demonstrate their products, systems and
processes comply with agreed standards of safety and integrity. Indeed, in the
case of ships and offshore assets, we’re likely to have set those standards
ourselves. Independent assurance is still a major part of what we do — although
we’re active in other areas too.
